Participants needed for scoliosis study

A team of Brock researchers studying bone strength and back brace design for people with scoliosis is inviting women in Burlington and other regions to participate in their work.Women aged 18-40, who have or have had scoliosis during their adolescence and received brace treatment or no treatment all, are needed for a one-time examination, lasting about 90 minutes.Participants will receive a $50-honorarium but will also benefit by learning more about their own bone strength, and, if appropriate, they research team will counsel them in further options to pursue.Scoliosis is a medical condition characterized by the lateral curvature of the spine. The researchers want to examine how bracing may affect bone during the growing years, and how nutrition and exercise can be used to alleviate some of the potential effects of bracing. The results of the study will expand our knowledge of bone strength as well as re-think how back braces are designed for people with scoliosis. To participate, call 905-688-5550, ext. 5623 or email
