Pierre, who is standing in for Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony, according to a statement from the Georgetown-based secretariat. The three leaders, together with the CARICOM Secretary General Irwin LaRocquemake, up the Bureau of Heads of Government, a special super-committee of CARICOM leaders. Also on the mission is the former Jamaican leader, PJ Patterson, CARICOM’s Special Representative of the Heads of Government to Haiti, the statement said.“The purpose of the visit is to engage with the Government of Haiti with respect to its priorities which would assist in determining the nature of assistance required of the Community to that Member State,” the CARICOM statement said.On Monday, the delegation is due to meet with Haiti’s President Michel Martelly and on Tuesday with Prime Minister Garry Conille and fellow cabinet members. The mission will also include meeting with parliamentarians and leaders of business groups, youth and the media, CARICOM said.“The visit will also serve to emphasise continued support for the country in its reconstruction and development efforts following the 2010 earthquake and explore ways for strengthening Haiti’s participation in CARICOM,” the secretariat added. The mission will follow a week in which Port-au-Prince’s executive and legislative leadership undertook a diplomatic offensive to seek commitments to the country’s rebuilding and development efforts.Last week, Prime Minister Conille led a delegation to Washington to meet congressional leaders and the international financial institutions. At the same time, President Martelly was in Venezuela seeking Haiti’s membership of the regional bloc, ALBA, and securing bilateral aid and cooperation agreements with Caracas. Then the World Bank’s vice president for Latin America and the Caribbean, Hasan Tuluy, followed with a trip to Haiti, during which he visited World Bank reconstruction projects. At the weekend, the government signed a contract with a French consortium to rebuild the island’s leading source of renewable energy, a 54-megawatt hydroelectric plant, with funding from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).Antigua Observer Sharing is caring! 5 Views no discussions Share Share Share read more

Omega/Mega Productions which is spearheaded by Roselyn Brown has been in existence since 1980 training young people in various art forms. Their goal is to “provide the youth of Dominica with an opportunity to showcase their talent and to give back to the community”.THey are therefore in search of models, dancers and artists to participate in two “dynamic” competitions on May 5th, 2012 and July 28th, 2012 which will be held at the Krazy Kokonuts.Roselyn Brown explained at a press conference on Friday the organization ensures that their events are of benefit to the communities in which they are hosted.“It’s a competition for the youth; we’re looking for at least 20 models, dancers and also local artists that are already established whether individual or groups to compete on May 5th at the Krazy Kokonuts. The winners of the first competition will go on to be in a major production for the Calling of the Drums Youth Explosion 2012”.Brown also explained that Omega/Mega Production will also partner with King Clico as the winner of the second competition scheduled for July 28th will be featured on his new album.“We’re looking to collaborate with King Clico who is a Dominican artist but got his start in St. Maarten and is now an international artist. His first hit was “Education Is The Key” which we are very much highly recommending to our youth to be educated whether you are young, old or indifferent we all need to be educated and re-educated”.The calling of the drums she noted will benefit Dominica as the majority of the proceeds will be donated to the National Youth Council and the Operation Youth Quake “for the help and betterment of the youth in Dominica” as well as “two foundations for the blind and physically challenged”. We’re asking that the boutiques and the different clothing stores come on board with us for the fashions, we’re asking that anyone that can help to make this a success will be very much needed”. “Our youth deserve to have opportunities; but without giving them an opportunity how can they become successful? We deserve for them to be able to do everything they can to get out there in the public eye,” she noted. The deadline for submitting applications has been extended from March 30th to April 7th, 2012 in an effort to “make this a great benefit for the whole community of Dominica”.Interested parties can obtain application forms from the youth council as well as Ms Brown who can be contacted via email at [email protected] or telephone number 767 315 8956.Dominica Vibes News read more

Sergio Romero has spent large parts of his club career sitting on the bench but after helping Manchester United win the Europa League, he believes he has shown he is good enough to be the club’s number one goalkeeper. The Argentina No. 1 has had to make do with only six Premier League starts in his two seasons with United since signing from Sampdoria, where he also had a limited role. But he spoke of his gratitude to Jose Mourinho for making him first choice in the victorious Europa League campaign.”I chose to come here because of the type of club this is, one of the biggest in the world and an opportunity I couldn’t turn down even though I knew it might be a little harder here to play a lot,” Romero told reporters after United’s 2-0 win over Ajax in the final on Wednesday.”With Louis (van Gaal) I played 12 games and I felt good and so I thought I had played an important role for the team despite not playing a lot. Then with Jose I’ve had a bigger role, I’ve been able to play a little more and I’ve been able to show I’m a goalkeeper that can play for this club.”Romero played the first four games of his first season at United as David de Gea was expected to move to Real Madrid, a transfer that was derailed on the final day of the transfer window due to administrative reasons. The Argentine did not feature again in the league in the 2014/15 season but with Real expected to move for the Spain No. 1 again this summer he could be in line to be United’s first choice keeper next campaign and committed to stay at the club.advertisement”My intention is to stay. I could be the number one or number two again, it all depends on hard work, but hard work is something I have plenty of,” added Romero, who began his career with Argentine club Racing Club de Avellaneda.”But you never know what’s going to happen in the future so you have to keep working hard for what comes next.”His consistency in the Europa League, where he kept eight clean sheets in 12 games, was a rare instance in which he replicated his prominent role for Argentina, where he is the most capped goalkeeper in the team’s history, at club level.”There were many moments when I returned home very happy, I’ve kept a lot of clean sheets and helped my team mates on a lot of occasions that’s given me enormous satisfaction,” Romero added.”I have to thank the coaching staff for showing faith in me and my teammates who made a lot of effort to make me feel tranquil and ending with this trophy in our hands makes us doubly happy.” read more
